where: Modern-day China, Russia, and Mongolia, and possibly Thailand as well.
when: Early Cretaceous period, 100 to 130 million years ago
who: Named by paleontologist and president of the American Museum of Natural History Henry Fairfield Osbourne.
what: The Psittacosaurus is noted among dinosaurs for having many species — 9 to 11, it is thought — within its genus. All members of the genus are bipedal herbivores about the size of a gazelle. They have strong beaks, and one species, perhaps more, is thought to have long, quill like object protruding from its lower-back and the top of its tail. There have been recent suggestions that some species were semi-aquatic and swam with their tail; however, these remain hypotheses thus far.
